Since the end of last year, our Emporium walls have been graced by the beautiful illustrations of Benji Davies and his books. The exhibition focuses on his latest book The Storm Whale in Winter.
This stunning exhibition displays framed early sketches and original artwork besides the books pages. We also held a wonderful Storytime Sunday session with Benji in December, where he read The Storm Whale in Winter to his adoring audience, who in return helped to create a scene from the book with all the characters. You can see and read more about this session here.
But this exhibition won’t be with us for long, as it is going on tour to share the magic with other children around the country, so pop in soon to catch a glimpse of The Storm Whale and Noi.
Where the Story Began
This exhibition explores what ten of our artists drew as children, where their ideas came from and the point at which they decided to embrace children’s storytelling and illustration as their chosen vocation.
The ways in which artists envision their stories, seeing how these ideas evolve and turning their ideas into something special is thoroughly fascinating.
The backstory to these loved brands, from out-takes to behind the scenes footage absorbs us into the artist’s world. This exhibition is a celebration of the journeys of some of our biggest stars and includes talented artists at all stages in their career.
We present some of our newest generation of talented stars, including David Litchfield who debuts his first book, The Bear and The Piano this year, and the extraordinary Sue Hendra, who is doing brilliantly with her first TV show and is working hard on her second!
Fans who love and treasure a particular book or character series can buy a limited edition print from best-selling and much loved artists. Find out more about the exhibition here, and take a look at our Limited Edition Print’s here.
Now travelling, this exhibition will next be at London Book Fair 2017.
